Improve Gas Mileage

One thing that almost all of us are having to put up with now is the rising price of gas in the United States. To be perfectly honest, there really isn't much sense in complaining about it because we all have to pay it regardless of who we are. The only other option we have is not to drive at all and that really is not an option for most of us that have to go to work and earn a living. That doesn't mean, however, that you are totally without any options whatsoever. There are some ways to improve gas mileage that can help to ease some of the pain that you are feeling at the pump whenever it comes time to fill it up.

One of the best ways for you to improve your gas mileage is to make sure that you're driving efficiently at all times. Doing things such as observing the posted speed limits, not hauling around any extra weight and avoiding any idling that is unnecessary are excellent ways to make sure that you get more mileage out of your car. Did you realize that for every 5 miles that your car goes over 60 mph you end up spending an additional $.20 or more per gallon? The short amount of time that you're going to save by driving over the speed limit is not going to be worth the extra money that you're paying at the pump. The same is also true with the weight that you have in your car. If you're carrying around a couple hundred pounds of needless junk, that is like having an extra person in the car and it's going to cost you more money. Idling your car is simply throwing money away.

Another way for you to improve gas mileage is to make sure that it is running efficiently all the time. If it is out of tune or if the air filters need replaced you are throwing money away as far as gas is concerned. Perhaps it used to be a toss up because of the expensive price of getting your car tuned or buying filters but with gas prices the way that they are, it is well worth the money to spend on these essential items. You can also improve your gas mileage by making sure that you are using the proper oil. Check your manufacturer's guidelines to see what weight of oil you should use and you may improve your gas mileage by 2% or more.

The only other way to improve gas mileage is to convert your car into a water burning vehicle. Although this may take a little bit of work, imagine the money that you will save by filling up your tank from the sink instead of filling it up at the gas pump. It is one way that you can improve gas mileage by using high-tech methods that are not currently available through commercial means.
